SIMDUSTRY® had a fair venue again at this year’s world’s most unique International Conference and Expo 2019 (ATD). Hundreds of visitors asked Stefanie Flecke (CEO), Dirk Fröhlich (CEO) and Dina Weiler (Head of Business Development) many questions about business simulations (ready-to-use and yet adaptable; digital vs. face-to-face), development programs for junior executives up to C-level or digital tools to be used before / during / after the training.

“The expo is always super exciting and informative. We used to be participants ourselves and decided in 2007 to represent a German training company here. Since then we have been present at the ATD every year. The ATD is much larger than all the fairs known in Germany and much more many-faceted with the Keynote Speeches, time only for the exhibition hall, numerous different sessions on all important L&D (Learning & Development) topics up to Train-the-Trainer Courses” – says Dirk Fröhlich, Managing Partner of SIMDUSTRY®.

Latest trends in the learning industry

SIMDUSTRY® Managing Partner Stefanie Flecke

“In 2019, the trends of the conference were focused on digitization, but there were also more traditional topics such as leadership programs that have been taken up again. This year, some of the top topics were artificial intelligence, the power of storytelling in the training, onboarding and offboarding, inclusion and virtual reality. The areas of technology and digital media were to be to the fore. Also, emotions and personalization, such as Personal branding and soft skills were important topics.” – is the summary of the Managing Partner Stefanie Flecke.

Booming markets – Asia and the Middle East

This year’s conference had a largerer number of exhibitors compared to previous years – 466 exhibitors from all over the world shared their knowledge with more than 11,000 visitors. Most visitors came from Korea, Japan and Canada – as in 2018 and 2017. “Asia and the Middle East were particularly present this year – as in previous years”, says Managing Partner Stefanie Flecke and sums up currently Asia and the Middle East are the booming market when it comes to HR / L&D services. We are observing this for about 2 to 3 years”. There were hardly any visitors from South America, Eastern Europe and Russia at this year’s conference. Among the 11,000 visitors were 33 German visitors – which means, Germany was among the top 15 global visitors.

Learn gurus from around the world meet annually in a different location within the US to share and learn from each other. Therefore, the ATD is considered as an important event for networking and to get to know the latest trends and techniques in the further education / training industry. The ATD (Association for Talent Development) is the world’s largest professional organization specialized in talent development. It has more than 35,000 members in over 120 countries and has been active in training, further education and expertise for 75 years.

Every year ATD focuses on the latest trends in the learning industry. Many years of experience and a broad distribution of members result in well-known experts that can be acquired, and a high-quality conference that can be held.

This year, the four-day conference was held in Washington from 19th to 22nd May. Ahead of the conference, a three-day course and learning program on a variety of topics from the HR world for ATD members and conference visitors took place. Also, during the expo and conference numerous training courses could be visited concerning the entire process cycle in the L&D.

Some of the top sessions were e.g.:

  • The Top 10 Tips, Techniques, and Strategies for a Master Trainer (by Bob Pike)
  • The Future of Learning Data and Analysis (JD Dillon, Megan Torrance, Glenn Bull, Ben Betts, Neville Samuell)
  • The 5 proven methods of the 5 largest US companies to measure the impact of training (Kelby Zorgdrager, Elizabeth Pierce, Caitlin Mann, Tamera Scholz, Danny Ryan)

Some of the sessions may be looked up by members of the ATD and visitors to the entire conference subsequent to the conference and exhibition; 125 of the 515 courses were recorded and are available. Link to the records: click here.
